La LIYC Fiesta de Pre-Ensenada ~ Muy Bueno!

It may have been a Thursday night, but the Lido Isle Yacht Club Pre-Ensenada Party ranked with the greatest weekend parties ever! Rear Commodore Betsey Olenick Dougherty prepared a great send-off to our sailors heading to Ensenada the following morning.
The Clubhouse was transformed into una Fiesta muy bueno with sombreros, colorful flags and serapes with the help of Russ Butcher, Gail Reisman, Kris Mungo, Joyce Pais-Chambers, and Jan Sutherlen. The check-in table was covered by Kris Mungo, Nancy Salomon, and her beautiful daughter Shanel Wilson. Margaritas and Corona beer were flowing with the help of Magic Margarita Machine owner Phil Ramer, Head Barkeep Jay Leonard, and bartenders Eric Auckerman and Brian Dougherty. Music by Mariachi Zacatecas filled the air with violin, horn and guitar. They were fantastic! Better yet was the amazing appetizers and dinner prepared by Ellen Liebherr and Creative Catering, consisting of freshly made chips, salsa and guacamole, Southwestern eggroll, enchiladas, chicken fajitas, black beans, Mexican rice, and a Tres Leches cake that was definitely worth the calories. Ellen really outdid herself for this one. Staff photographers Hilary Benedict and Juli Ackerman did a great job of recording the festivities.
The Richley family contender, Amante, was represented by Buddy and Tim Richley and LIYC crew member Hilary Benedict. Chuck Brewer’s Heartbeat II had a great crew turnout, including LIYC SC Don Benedict. Wait a minute! A Benedict on either boat?! What if Dad wins? What if Dad loses? We understand that whoever rides on the winning boat gets an all-expense paid vacation at the family pad in Mammoth! By the time this article hits the Islander, the outcome will be known to all.
The Lido Isle Yacht Club social calendar is off to a great start. The next event is Opening Day on Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m., followed by the summer sailing season. Join us for the first Friday Nite BBQ and Adult Races on Friday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. for the New Member Burger Bash. Everyone is invited, and new members as well as those joining that night are admitted free!
The BIG EVENT of the summer will be Commodore Frank Gruver’s Beach Party on Saturday night, July 18. The beach opens at 6 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Mark Wood and the Class of 69. This year’s double-header will include Lido Isle’s very own Sandy Bottom Blues Band, featuring LIYC SC Quentin Wall, LIYC SC Brian Dougherty, and LIYC Board soon-to-be-spouse Eric Aukerman. For those of you who attending their debut at the Westside Bar & Grill, you know that THESE GUYS ARE REALLY GOOD!! This event is always a sell-out, so be sure to get your reservations in early.
